Preparing to Migrate: Your Action Plan
Before you hand in your Windows device, please ensure your files are backed up. Please note: local files (saved on your C: Drive) will not transfer automatically.
You must turn in your Windows device in order to get your Apple device.
Option A (Cloud Backup)
Drag and drop any files you need to keep directly into your Google Drive (via the application and not drive.google.com)
Note: If you prefer to use drive.google.com, A setting needs to be modified first before you can use this method. Please refer to the "How to backup your files for Apple Transition" to ensure maximum compatibility
Tip: Wait for the sync icon to show a green checkmark (✅) before shutting down!
Option B (USB Flash Drive)
KIPP NYC does not provide or manage personal external hardware. We recommend the G: Drive (Option A) as our supported method because using an external drive is slower and carries a higher risk of file corruption or loss.
Plug in your USB drive and copy your local files directly into the external drive folder.
Note: The Apple devices are USB-C ONLY and will require an adapter if your USB Drive is not USB-C
Don't have one? You can purchase one from Amazon
We do not suggest any specific brands. You can browse for drives that meet your needs here: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=USB+C+Thumb+Drive
Note: the drive should be USB-C and should have adequate space for your files
Bookmarks
If you use Chrome or Edge and are signed in with your work profile, your bookmarks will sync automatically
Note: This must be enabled by you
Not signed in? Open your browser settings
Find the "Bookmark Manager"
Choose Export Bookmarks.
Save the file to your Cloud Storage or USB Drive to import on your new Mac
