In January 2025, we launched an ambitious Digital Transformation to modernize how we work and learn. Having successfully navigated the Consolidate and Automate phases—including our full migration to Google Workspace and the launch of ParentSquare—we are now ready for phase three: Innovate.
In December, we began working with a subset of school leaders, representing all grade levels and SST leaders, to evaluate the types of activities each user group needs to accomplish. We mapped these needs to the various devices that could be used (Windows PCs, Chromebooks, MacBooks & iPads). After a thorough analysis and several months of testing, the evaluation group determined that a migration to Apple Devices would best serve our stakeholders, equip our students with tools that support their learning, provide the best user experience, and be a cost-effective solution.
Staff Hardware: All returning staff will receive MacBooks between May 19 and June 18.
Student Hardware: K-8 students will transition to iPads with keyboards, while grades 9-12 will receive MacBook Neos this summer.
Classroom Tech: All projectors will be upgraded with AppleTV or Vivi devices for seamless wireless casting.
Training & Support: Comprehensive training will be provided during Regional Summer PD, with additional opportunities for Apple Certified Educator status.
We know this is a change from our traditional PC and Chromebook environment. To ensure everyone feels confident:
Professional Development: We are partnering with Apple Education to provide dedicated resources for new macOS users.
Internal Experts: We will support staff who wish to become Apple Certified Educators to lead the way at their campuses.
Vision: This shift positions us to become the first charter network in NYC to achieve Apple School of Distinction status.
