Maintaining an organized classroom starts with knowing exactly where every device belongs. To help with end-of-day cleanup and inventory management, we’ve made it easy to identify a Chromebook’s "home" (assigned classroom) and its designated student directly from the device itself.
1. Accessing the Lookup Tool
You do not need to log in to the device to find this information. You can access the lookup tool right from the main login screen.
Step 1: On the Chromebook login screen, look for the "Chromebook Home Lookup" link (usually located in the bottom shelf or near the "Add Person" button).
Step 2: Click the arrow icon associated with the lookup tool.
Step 3: If a second confirmation arrow appears, click it again to launch the information window.
2. Identifying the Assigned Student and Room
Once clicked, the device will automatically open a system page (the chrome://policy screen). To find the owner, look specifically for the Asset ID field:
Assigned Student: The name listed in the Asset ID or Value column indicates the student currently assigned to this device.
Location/Room: Any classroom or cart numbers associated with the device will also be displayed in this metadata.
Why This Matters
We want our tech to stay in top shape for our students! Using this tool helps ensure:
Accountability: Devices are used by the students they are assigned to.
Organization: Every Chromebook returns to its correct cart at the end of the day.
Charging: Returning a device to its "Home" cart ensures it’s plugged in and ready for a full day of learning tomorrow.
Staff Reminder: > If you find a device where the Asset ID is blank or shows an incorrect student name, please submit a quick ticket to TechSupport@kippnyc.org so we can update our records and keep your inventory accurate!
